Nevada Irrigation District Water Supply Analysis
Nevada City
Nevada City, CA
This project primarily involved an evaluation of potential
generation sites with the City's water treatment and conveyance
facilities. Project intent was to review operating parameters and site condition at the City's water and wastewater treatment
facilities.
Kleinschmidt reviewed the pipelines leading to and from each of the facilities to determine their adequacy to function as pressurized penstocks. It was then determined the long term availability of head pressures and flows entering and exiting each of the facilities. By determining the availability of head pressures and flows, hydroelectric generation potential for each of the sites was estimated. Review of electrical invoices determined what percentage of the City's electrical local demands could be displaced by hydroelectric generation at each of the sites.
Kleinschmidt's review of the City's facilities found that potential exists to harness some of the hydroelectric energy within the facilities. The hydro generation will partially displace the City's electrical loads.
