Connecticut Resource Recovery I&E Studies and CDS
CRRA Facility

The CRRA facility is a refuse burning facility located on the Connecticut River
in Hartford. The plant currently uses two cooling water intakes. Kleinschmidt
has been contracted to conduct up to two years of I&E studies and develop the Comprehensive Demonstration Study. While impingement studies
have historically been conducted at the site, new entrainment and impingement
data are being collected. This will include offshore source water sampling of fish eggs
and larvae. The impingement data will be supplemented with studies of
re-impingement and collection efficiency sampling.
During CDS development, the various alternatives available under the rule will be evaluated along with a complete biological, engineering and cost-benefit analysis of compliance options. Kleinschmidt was selected because of its extensive experience in the Connecticut River spanning over 30 years of ecological research.
