Senior Consulting Engineer

Senior Electrical Engineer
Kleinschmidt is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to fill an opening in our Maine or Pennsylvania offices. Minimum requirements include a BS degree in Electrical Engineering with at least 10 years of progressive work experience on varied industrial and utility power projects. Preferred candidates will have expertise with power systems design, transmission & distribution power equipment, protective relaying, network communication protocols, grounding systems design, utility interconnection requirements, and is a PE or has the ability to obtain professional registration within one year of hire. The successful candidate must also possess a working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), and other applicable codes and standards, as well as have excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills.
Typical duties performed by a successful candidate include:
- Exercises good judgment in evaluating, selecting, adapting and modifying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Conceptualizes the initial electrical design approach for major phases of large facility projects, or is responsible for the electrical engineering work on a limited scope project.
- Supervises the design and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with agency officials.
- Resolves a variety of complex problems, (i.e., conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, difficult coordination requirements).
- Serves as a liaison between clients and agencies, subcontractors, and design teams. Reviews plans and prepares or reviews technical specifications, contract documents, and estimates.
- Participates in contract bidding and administration; observes project action on site.
- Supervises the work of less experienced engineers and/or technical support personnel assigned to the project.
- Performs other duties assigned by a Project Engineer or Project Manager.

Designer/Drafter
Kleinschmidt is seeking a Designer/Drafter in our Strasburg, PA office.
The successful candidate will possess the following minimum qualifications:
- Associate Degree in drafting or other similar degree;
- Minimum requirements include 3 years of AutoCAD experience;
- AutoDesk Land Development or AutoCAD 3d experience would be an asset;
- Experience with building construction, hydropower or other civil/mechanical drafting is a plus; and

Mechanical Engineer
Kleinschmidt is seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer in our Pittsfield or Falmouth, ME or Strasburg, PA offices.
The successful candidate will possess a B.S.from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering and preferably have 3-5 years experience with or an interest in hydro engineering and renewable energy, design projects which includes hydroelectric power generation systems and their support systems (energy modeling, turbine/generator selections, dewatering and sump pumps/piping, hydraulic fluid power systems design, power transmission lifting systems, HVAC, etc), as well as designing fish passage and trapping facilities (basic machine design including shafts, chain drives, torque limiting devices, etc). Knowledge of CAD drafting is preferable. Candidates should possess or qualify to take the EIT exam and/or be working toward professional registration. Candidates must also be willing to occasionally travel.

Civil/Structural Engineer
Kleinschmidt has an immediate full-time opening in one of our Northeastern offices for a mid-level Civil/Structural Engineer.
This position involves a combination of structural design and construction oversight responsibilities. The immediate need will have the candidate participating as part of a team of technical professionals working on various hydro and other “green energy” projects taking place in the U.S. The position will require experience in structural aspects of both concrete and steel construction in water environments. The successful engineer will have excellent problem solving needs while working one-on-one with the client. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to be mentored by our senior staff having up to 30 years of experience in the fields of hydroelectric and fish passage facilities design incorporating the skills of structural, civil, hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical engineering.
Minimum requirements include a BSCE with a minimum of 3 years of experience in structural engineering. A Master’s degree in structural engineering or related solid mechanics background is desirable. Registration as a Professional Engineer or the potential to become registered within two years is required. Civil/Hydraulic or Civil/Structural Engineer
Kleinschmidt has an immediate opening in our Essex, CT office for an engineer with at least 2 to 5 years experience with excellent analytical and communication skills. Requirements for the position include a BS degree in Civil Engineering. Experience in Structures, Hydraulics, GIS, and AutoCAD is desirable. An EIT or PE is desirable, or the candidate must be able to become a PE within 3 years. Good writing and oral communication skills are a must.
Typical duties of the position will include the performance of a broad variety of engineering tasks under the supervision of a senior engineer. These tasks may include:

Civil/Structural Engineer

We are seeking a growth-oriented individual with a strong background in the fundamentals of structural and civil engineering. Civil/Design Engineer
Kleinschmidt is seeking a Civil/Design Engineer to fill an opening in our Pittsfield or Falmouth, Maine offices. We provide many different facets of civil land/site design in and adjacent to natural waterways including:
- Recreational facilities development – public beach frontage development and improvements, boat launches, nature trails, public bathhouses, etc.
- Commercial and industrial facilities site layout and design – access ways and parking systems, site drainage, site erosion control, etc.
- Natural habitat improvement projects – Fish habitat improvement, wetland restorations and development, bird nesting habitat installations, improvements needed to accommodate rare and threatened species along waterways, etc.
Qualified applicants will possess a BSCE, Professional Engineer registration, and at least 10 years of experience. Applicants must also possess experience or be familiar with local building codes, local, state and federal land use requirements, ADA regulations, stormwater analysis, basic steel, reinforced concrete, and timber design, use of Civil 3D, and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Senior FERC Licensing Specialist/Project Manager
Kleinschmidt is seeking Senior FERC Licensing Specialist/Project Manager for our Grass Valley, CA office. Minimum requirements include a BS/MS with 6+ years of experience in FERC hydropower licensing and compliance regulations and processes. The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience:
- Experience with water related resources, hydroelectric operations, and an in-depth knowledge of FERC and NEPA regulations and processes for hydroelectric and other energy projects.
- Proven ability to develop strategies for major issues with regulatory and resource relationships.
- Experience managing medium to large projects, budget preparation and tracking, and the ability to implement business development initiatives.
- Highly developed communication and presentation skills, including proposal preparation and interaction with clients and stakeholders (public, state and federal resource agencies, non-governmental organizations).
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team across multiple geographic locations.
